Welcome to Pinoy Geek Lab!  Today we review the Revoltech Yamaguchi Naked Snake from the game Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker.

This figure was one of the most anticipated figures in the Revoltech Yamaguchi line when it was first announced. Let's see if this figure lives up to its hype.

Click Read More Below to proceed to the review.

Hideo Kojima creator of the famed Metal Gear Franchise teased this image of the figure in February of 2013.  Leaving fans to speculate on what version of Snake would be released.

A prototype was fully revealed at the Wonder Festival 2013 that Kaiyodo would be releasing Naked Snake from Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker as part of its Revoltech Yamaguchi line.

This version Snake, though a bit anime-ish is the most poseable among all his renditions across all toy lines.

The Packaging

The figure comes in the standard Revoltech Yamaguchi Box.  The picture window reveals the figure inside and some of the accessories included.  The side shows a close-up shot of the figure, the scale of the figure and what game it comes from.

The back of the box, though in Japanese explains all the features of the figure, as well of some of the possible poses that can be done with the figure.  The box is very collector friendly since you can easily open the box without ruining it, take out the contents and place them back after play.

Contents

The figure includes a veritable trove of accessories.  Included in the package are nine different types of hands (Four different pairs plus an extra hand for holding the M16 Rifle), an M16 Rifle, a Silenced Pistol, a Stun Knife, Bandana, various stands, 2 stand revolver joints, an effects stand, 2 claw attachments, a Revoltech storage box, and three effects accessories distinct to the Metal Gear Franchise-  a Paper Art Cardboard Box, a reversible Alert exclamation point and a Sleep Icon.

The Figure

This figure is roughly around 6 inches.  In scale with most 6-inch figures in the market like Marvel legends and DC Universe.  In true Revoltech fashion, this figure features a ton of articulation points- 26 at my count.  Heck, even Snakes Mullet has an articulation point. This figure can do a LOT of poses other figures from other toy lines can only dream about.  The signature Revoltech revolver joints coupled with different stands enables this figure to hold action poses well.

Here's my favorite feature of the figure:

Look closely.

GASP!  WHAT MANNER WIZARDRY IS THIS?!

As i mentioned earlier, this figure is well articulated.  Its so articulated that even the Snake's mullet and one eye ball has articulation points.  How's this possible?  observe the pictures below.

The figure features a removable faceplate that allows you to change the position of the eyeball.  Take care however since the eyeball is quite small an can easily get lost.

The Accessories

The figure is equipped with three weapons- Snake's signature silenced .45 Caliber pistol, an M16 rifle, and a Stun Knife.  These weapons are part of Snake's primary gear in the Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker.  The different hands included with the figure allows Snake to hold his weapons in a very natural manner.  The hands, weapons, stands, and the figure's numerous articulation points amounts to hours of fun imitating different action poses that snake does in the game.

The two gripping claws included with the figure allows Snake to hang from bars and narrow ledges.

Now we move on to the quirkier accessories- The Paper Art Box, the Alert Icon, and the Sleep Icon.  These accessories, though a bit weird, gives the figure a feel that makes it distinctly part of the Metal Gear franchise.

Here's Snake, Taking a little nap in the box.

Note: The box shown in the picture is a scan and print out of the original one that came from the package.  I didn't want to cut out the original sheet that came with the figure.  The original box is a bit bigger than my print out version.

Final Verdict

For me this figure is arguably one of the best Metal Gear Solid figures out in the Market.  The Play Arts Kai version though it has better and more game-accurate sculpting is a bit restrictive when it comes to poseability.  So the argument of which is better depends on how you intend to enjoy the figures.  If you like game-realistic and highly detailed figures, the Play Arts Kai version is for you.  However, if you enjoy playing around with your action figures, or displaying them in different poses, this figure is definitely for you.  If it were up to me however, as a big Metal Gear fan, I would get both figures.

This figure retails for around Php 1800-2200 depending on the shop where you buy it.  This figure is locally available at various shops in Greenhills.

Here's some additional shots of the figure.  Note that the MP-5 Sub Machine Gun and the Sniper Rifle are from other 6 inch toy sets.
